Remains of Jackie Douthart, missing Iowa woman, believed found
(CBS/KCCI) MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Human remains discovered in March by two children riding their bikes are believed to be those of Iowa woman Jackie Douthart, who has been missing for a year, CBS affiliate KCCI reported.
Special agent Jeff Uhlmeyer with the state Divison of Criminal Investigation said possessions belonging to Douthart were also found with the bones, leading to their conclusion about the victim's identity.
"Nuclear DNA profiling failed to develop a profile for the remains," Uhlmeyer said.
Investigators said the cause of death remains undetermined.
Douthart was first reported missing in May 2011 when she didn't return home after a night out with friends.
Ben Biggs, 24, a "person of interest" in the case, committed suicide in June after a police chase and standoff in Western Illinois.
Tuesday night family members and friends held a vigil in Mount Pleasant to mark the one year anniversary of Douthart's disappearance.
