Red Dead Redemption Gets a 2010 Facelift
With Halloween right around the corner many people are finalizing their costume plans. According to a news report Steve Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who's been in the news lately, is one of several possible costumes for this year. While this beloved holiday typically brings the - freaks out at night- Halloween is no stranger to entertainment releases that are meant to do more than [just] scare you. And Rockstar Games is no exception.
Rockstar Games revealed the latest downloadable content (dlc) for the open world western game "Red Dead Redemption" at the 2010 New York Comic-Con at the infamous Jacob Javits Center. Taking a strange turn into the supernatural the aptly named "Undead Nightmare" has the main character, John Marston battling hordes of Zombies. I was able to get a hands on preview of the expansion pack and I walked away very impressed.
From the screen shots and trailer we do see that John gets a zombie horse, and undead animals are roaming the great wilds, presumably waiting to be put out of their misery. The area that I played was set in a graveyard (of course) and had John burning coffins while trying to avoid being eaten alive from a few different types of zombies. The traditional, slowly shuffling zombies made an appearance before I turned them into red gobs of goo using a new weapon called the "Blunderbus".
The more modern fast moving zombies were also included, for these I had to use the 'Red Eye Technique' to slow time and carefully get those crucial headshots off, because everyone knows the only way to truly kill the undead is with a shot to the head. There was a third type of zombie that I came across. These moved fairly quickly, and spit a sort of greenish goo that would damage you from a distance. Unfortunately I didn't last long against that type.
"Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare" is now available [as of October 26] just in time for Halloween packed with different types of multiplayer modes and single player missions. Based on the demo that I was able to play, this looks like a welcome addition to an already stellar game.
