Red Bull theft fuels car chase, say Mass. cops

CBS/AP

(CBS/AP) WESTFIELD, Mass. - Red Bull didn't exactly give a Massachusetts man wings, but police say it did help fuel an hour-long chase through several towns, after a South Hadley man stole several cases of the energy drink from a Northampton supermarket.

Police say 30-year-old William Gardner grabbed five cases of Red Bull worth just over $100 Monday afternoon, ignored a store security guard and drove off.

Police chased him through Easthampton and Southampton before his tires were punctured and he was arrested in Westfield.

Gardner is charged with failing to stop for police, reckless driving and resisting arrest in Westfield, and larceny in Northampton.

Police did not indicate whether he was revved up on Red Bull during the pursuit, but did say the chase stayed within the speed limit.
