Rape suspect calls 911 on himself
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Authorities in Palm Beach, Fla. are investigating after a man called 911 to report he had sexually battered a woman who replied to a Craigslist advertisement for a cleaning job, reports CBS Miami.
According to the alleged victim, Joel Jones, 47, first met her about a cleaning job in late July, the station reported.
On August 12, the victim said she met Jones at a gas station in Palm Beach Gardens. She told deputies that she followed Jones to an office building where he allegedly took her inside the building to show her the rooms to be cleaned.
The woman said Jones made sexual advances towards her which she resisted, but he assaulted her while holding a knife to her throat, reports the station.
After the attack, the victim reportedly said Jones apologized and told her he had to do it because it was how he would get to the people that killed his son.
The victim said Jones let her go and she watched Jones call 911.
The victim also sought help from police, according to documents obtained by CBS Miami.
When a Palm Beach sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene, Jones was reportedly waiting and waved down the deputy to admit he sexually battered the victim, reports the station.
While arresting Jones, the officer said Jones confessed again and cried.
During an interview, Jones told deputies that he planned to "rape" the woman by "tricking" her into meeting him at the gas station.
Jones asked the deputies to document that it was a premeditated crime, according to the station.
Jones is charged with one count of sexual battery, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of battery.
