Rangers' Harvey Suspended

New York Rangers right wing Todd Harvey has been suspended for one game as the result of a roughing incident involving Vaclav Varada of the Buffalo Sabres.

The incident occurred Friday night at 19:44 of the third period after Varada had scored an empty-net goal to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead that eventually held up. Harvey, who skated across the ice and elbowed Varada from behind, was assessed a roughing penalty.

Forum: Should Harvey have been suspended?

  • "We acknowledge the frustration of Mr. Harvey at that time in the game, but under no condition will we accept actions as his after a goal has been scored," Colin Campbell, NHL vice president and director of hockey operations, said in a news release.

Harvey, who will miss Monday night's game against the Calgary Flames, will forfeit $3,385.42 of his $650,000 salary in addition to a mandatory $1,000 fine.
