Randy Travis fought with girlfriend shortly before arrest: Report

(CBS) Randy Travis reportedly got into an argument with his girlfriend shortly before he was arrested for public intoxication early Monday morning.

TMZ reports after the country singer was found clutching a bottle of wine outside a church in Texas, Travis told cops he had just gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, according to a police report.

Travis was found in his vehicle with no lights on, reeking of alcohol. Officers tossed out the rest of the booze and towed away Travis' car. The singer was brought to jail and released a few hours later.

The 52-year-old singer has since apologized for the incident, blaming a rowdy Super Bowl bash.

"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," he said in a statement. "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."

Travis and Elizabeth, his wife of 19 years, divorced in 2010.
