Randy Jackson: We Tried To Help Britney
"American Idol" judge and music producer Randy Jackson has been around a long time and has seen many stars come and go.
But not many stars have fallen so quickly and dramatically as Britney Spears, who recently was ordered by a judge to relinquish custody of her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
"You know, listen, if this doesn't really get her to the core, I don't know if anything will," he told The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm. "My heart goes out to her, though. It must be really, really tough. Losing your kids is a tough thing."

Timeline: Britney's MeltdownIt's been a long year for Spears who seemed to spiral out of control following her divorce from Federline. She shaved her head in February and was in and out of rehab. Both her manager and her lawyer dropped her as a client, and she is estranged from her parents. Spears has been criticized for refusing to take advice and help. Jackson said that he and his fellow "Idol" judges, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, reached out to the pop star.
"A couple weeks ago we were in San Diego doing 'Idol' auditions and the judges said 'Britney, come to us. We'll help you,' " he said.
Earlier this month, Simon Cowell told Fox News that he and his fellow judges "plan to buy her underpants, get her bigger shorts to perform in and get her away from her stupid friends."
The pop star never took them up on their offer.
