Quads Born To Couple Who Had Twins

What do you do for an encore after having twins? How does having quadruplets sound?

For Catrina and AJ Motter, of Toledo, Ohio, baby made five, then six, then seven, and eight!

The quads, two boys and two girls, were born May 30, joining two-year-old twin boys in the Motter household. The last of the quads just got home.

Catrina, 25, and AJ, 28, who'll be celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary early next month, beamed as they spoke with The Early Show co-anchor Rene Syler Wednesday.

AJ told Syler that Connor, Elizabeth, Grace, and Dylan, who weighed a bit more than four pounds each at birth, are "doing really well. We're pretty fortunate. All of them came out pretty healthy. … Dylan's still got some oxygen hooked to him and a monitor but, other than that, everybody's doing really great."

Mom said she's "doing pretty good. They're pretty calm babies. … It's a little crazy with the two-year-olds."

According to the Toledo Blade, the quads came into the world at 31 weeks, about three weeks longer than most women carry quadruplets.

Dr. Howard Stein, who was the quads' neonatologist at the hospital, told the Blade it's rare that quads are as healthy as the Motter babies.

"Usually," Stein said, "quadruplets come out much smaller and sicker. They had some problems, but for what normal quadruplets would have, their (problems) were not as bad."

Catrina told Syler she and AJ knew multiple births were a possibility, since she was on fertility drugs."At first," Catrina said, "they told us we were going to have triplets. Then, when we got back, they said, 'You're going to have quads.' I started crying. I couldn't believe it. I was like, 'You said only three. Now four?' So we were pretty shocked."

How did the twins, Keegan and Bryce, react as the quads arrived home?

"Well," AJ replied, "the first one that came home (Grace), they acknowledged – they said, 'Baby.' And a few days later, the second one (Connor) came home, and when we walked through the door, Keegan looked a little confused and said, 'Two babies?' And we just kept counting after that, until Dylan came home a couple days ago."

Catrina says the twins are already lending a hand: "They're helpers. They help make the bottles and get the diapers and the wipes, and help bathe them. So, they're pretty good little toddlers. … They're pretty mellow."

As for the quads, Catrina told CBS NewsGrace is "ornery" and "demanding," the first one to eat. "She is the queen," Catrina said. "Elizabeth is alert and looks around; I call her 'my princess.' Connor and Dylan are laid back."

Are the Motters ready to be the parents of six kids so young?

"Emotionally, yeah," Catrina told Syler. "Financially, we'll work through it. I think, with six kids (so young) and, you know, trying to find a house and get a bigger house for them to live in right now, is a little stressful. But emotionally, I think we're pretty good."

The Motters are auctioning off their two-story, three-bedroom home and seeking a larger one in the Toledo area.
