Protect Your Laptop with an Attention-Getting Alarm
Spend much time in coffee shops or airport lounges, and you might worry about your laptop walking away when you attention is elsewhere. Perhaps what you need is an ear piercing alarm that sounds when someone tries to unplug your laptop and carry it off.
That's where LAlarm comes in. LAlarm is a free app that sounds an alarm when your locked laptop is unplugged from wall power.
Lalarm is a pretty simple app. When you lock your PC with a special keyboard shortcut (Windows + L), it treats being removed from the wall as a threat and sounds an alarm at the laptop's maximum volume. Optionally, you can also set the program to wipe the machine's data, a Final Option of sorts if you don't catch up with thief because you aren't willing to put down your Carmel Macchiato and blueberry scone.
The program has a few other alarms, such as a low battery warning and hard drive failure warning, which I finds far less compelling - though you can turn those off if you desire.
I'll be honest: I'm obsessed with security alarms for laptops. I recently told you about ALARM, a similar alarm for stolen laptops. And don't forget about Prey, which you can use to make your stolen laptop phone home. The best solution of all? Don't lose your laptop.
