Private jet crash kills 3 Americans in France

(CBS News/AP) A private jet crashed Friday, killing all three people on board as the aircraft was landing at an airfield in the south of France, according to local police. The three people on board were U.S. citizens on the flight crew.

Toulon police confirmed to CBS Radio News correspondent Elaine Cobbe that the twin-engine jet crashed at the end of the runway at Castellet International Airport. The plane broke into several pieces upon landing and went up in flames.

The Americans included two men, aged 60 and 24, and one woman, 30. The victims, all burned, haven't been identified.

The plane had taken off from Nice, which is east along the Mediterranean coast. An investigation into the crash, which occurred on a windless day, has been opened.
