Harry, who had just gotten back from his helicopter training in the U.S., delivered an address at the annual carol concert for Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund. Henry was one of Harry's old friends who died in a car crash nine years ago, reports People magazine.

"It's never easy losing someone close to you," Harry said to the 800-person congregation, explaining that when it is family it is "even harder," according to People.

Harry and his brother William are joint patrons of the charity, and Kate went to the annual concert last year just after her engagement to William.

This year Carole Middleton, Kate's mother, and Pippa, Kate's sister, represented the Middleton family, according to People.

After the event, both Harry and Davy went to the Brompton Club, where club-goers said they greeted each other warmly, the Daily Mail reports.

The former couple had an on-again, off-again relationship, splitting four times between 2004 and 2009.
