Presidents Cup Names Venturi
Ken Venturi, a golf analyst for CBS Sports, was selected Wednesday as captain of the American team for the 2000 Presidents Cup.
Venturi, who turns 68 on Saturday, called his selection a dream. He follows Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Hale Irwin as captains of the Presidents Cup.
Venturi has not played on the tour in 30 years, but knows the players as well as anyone because of his work with CBS Sports.
"I will not be a playing captain," he said.
The Presidents Cup was patterned after the Ryder Cup to give foreign players born outside Europe a chance to take part in biennial matches.
