CHICAGO -- A pregnant Chicago woman who was shot in the abdomen during another violent holiday weekend in the city later delivered a nearly full-term baby boy.

The shooting Monday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood also wounded the woman’s boyfriend. A hospital spokeswoman says the woman, 23-year-old Crystal Myers, is in critical condition Tuesday. The spokeswoman could not release the infant’s condition without parental permission.

The boyfriend was identified as Albert Moore to CBS Chicago by his grandfather, Tyler Thomas, who witnessed the shooting.

Tyler said Moore and Myers were expecting their child to be born at the end of the month.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports police are investigating whether the shooting was connected to a fatal shooting Sunday in the same neighborhood.

The Chicago Police Department hasn’t released its count of Labor Day weekend shootings. The Sun-Times reports 65 people were shot, including 13 who were killed. The newspaper says eight died of 54 people who were shot during last year’s Labor Day weekend.
