Porn mogul's son, James Mitchell, convicted of murdering ex-girlfriend
(CBS/KPIX/AP) SAN RAFAEL, Calif - The son of a San Francisco porn mogul is facing life in prison after a jury convicted him of beating his ex-girlfriend to death with a baseball bat.
A Marin County, Calif. jury reportedly deliberated for less than two days before finding 29-year-old James Mitchell, son of the late "Behind the Green Door" director Jim Mitchell, guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday.
In addition to murder charges, Mitchell was convicted of kidnapping, child endangerment, child abduction, domestic violence and stalking.
Deputy District Attorney Charles Cacciatore said the jury did not convict Mitchell of the special circumstance of murder during a kidnapping, reports CBS affiliate KPIX.
Mitchell, 29, faces 34 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 16, Cacciatore reportedly said.
Prosecutors say Mitchell clubbed 29-year-old Danielle Keller to death at her home in Novato, north of San Francisco, in July 2009, while horrified neighbors watched. He then fled with the 1-year-old daughter he fathered with Keller.
Mitchell testified he fought off two men who actually killed Keller and tried to take their daughter from the residence as he arrived to celebrate the girl's birthday, according to KPIX.
He was arrested about five hours later in Citrus Heights after he ran out of gas. His daughter was not injured.
