Poll: America Loves Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks, the star of such films as "Forrest Gump" and "Saving Private Ryan," emerged as the favorite movie star of Americans in a Harris poll.
Hanks was the choice of both men and women who took the survey. The results of the poll were reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Julia Roberts, who finished third, was the only actress in the top 10. Mel Gibson finished second behinds Hanks.
The enduring popularity of the late John Wayne was reflected by his seventh place finish.
The rest of the field included Johnny Depp (4), Harrison Ford (5), Denzel Washington (6), Clint Eastwood (8), Sean Connery (9) and
George Clooney (10).
The Journal also reported Depp was the favorite actor of young people and that Gibson was No. 1 in the hearts of Republicans. Washington was No. 1 with blacks, while Depp was the top choice of Hispanics.
