Real headstone turns up in Ill. Halloween display

CHICAGO -- Police are trying to figure out how a real headstone ended up in a Halloween display, reports CBS Chicago.

The headstone, embossed with the name "Francis Nawrocki," was discovered as part of a family's Halloween decorations in Channahon, Ill., a village about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.

The stone is fairly small, made of polished red granite and edged with a cross and flowers. The only other words on the headstone are "Son" and the year 1959.

It was unclear if that year refers to a person's birth or death, police said.

Police said they have no clue who owns the headstone.

"Extensive records searches throughout the state have been met with negative results," police wrote in a Facebook post.

Police said they want to return the headstone to the family from whose gravesite it was taken.
