(CBS/AP) BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. - Mississippi Department of Transportation law enforcement officers say a tractor-trailer they stopped this week was hauling about $7 million worth of marijuana.

According to the Sun Herald, the MDOT announced Thursday they stopped the 2005 Peterbuilt tractor and van trailer Tuesday morning at the Interstate 10 inspection station in southern Mississippi. The vehicle was stopped for a routine weight, safety and paperwork check.

Officers then discovered 126 plastic wrapped, 55-pound bundles of marijuana that together weighed about 7,000 pounds.

MDOT officials, along with officers of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are now investigating where the marijuana came from and where it was going.

Charges against the driver were pending.
