Pistons Sign Pooh Richardson

The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent guard Pooh Richardson, who spent the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers bought out the remainder of Richardson's contract in September.

Neither the Pistons nor his agent, Arn Tellem, would release terms of the one-year contract.

"He's excited about the opportunity," Tellem said. "I think he'll fit in well there."

Richardson entered the NBA in 1989 as the first-round pick 10th overall of the Minnesota Timberwolves. After three years in Minnesota, Richardson played for the Indiana Pacers for two seasons. He was acquired by the Clippers in a 1994 trade.

Richardson has career averages of 11.1 points and 6.5 assists. He was hampered by an ankle injury last season and expressed frustration playing for the losing Clippers.
