Pierce Brosnan's daughter dies of ovarian cancer at 41

Pierce Brosnan has lost his 41-year-old daughter, Charlotte, who succumbed to ovarian cancer over the weekend.

The 60-year-old actor told People, "On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."

He added, "Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."

According to The Telegraph, Brosnan flew to the U.K. to be at his daughter's bedside. He had been in Eastern Europe, shooting the upcoming spy thriller "November Man."

Charlotte's mother, actress Cassandra Harris, died of ovarian cancer in 1991 at age 43. Charlotte was Brosnan's daughter from his marriage to Harris, a former Bond girl. Brosnan and Harris wed in 1980, and Brosnan adopted Charlotte and her brother, Christopher, after their father died in 1986. Brosnan and Harris had one son together, Sean. Harris' mother also had ovarian cancer and died when Harris was in her teens.

Brosnan has two children with his second and current wife, Keely Shaye Smith -- Dylan, 16, and Paris, 12.
