Philadelphia Wedding Brawl: NJ man charged in connection with reception melee in downtown Philly, police say

A man died from a heart attack and three men were arrested during a massive brawl that broke out between two wedding parties at a Philadelphia hotel

(CBS/AP) PHILADELPHIA - Police said Monday that a man was charged in connection with a large weekend brawl that broke out between attendants of two different receptions in a downtown Philadelphia hotel.

The fight, which was caught on video and quickly spread online, happened early Sunday at a hotel in the Society Hill neighborhood and involved dozens of people. Police said a 57-year-old guest suffered a fatal heart attack outside the reception but authorities don't know if he was involved in the fights. Dozens of police were called in to attempt to control the melee.

Matthew Sofka, 26, of Westfield, N.J., was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and other counts in connection with the fight, said spokesman Lt. Raymond Evers.

Evers said the investigation is continuing and police expect more arrests in the future. Investigators don't know what started the brawl, but alcohol was involved; two other people were cited for disorderly conduct.
