NEW YORK (CBS) The body found by actor Peter Fonda Wednesday in west Los Angeles has been classified by authorities as a possible suicide.

CNN is reporting that police have classified the death as a possible suicide but are withholding the name of the victim.

The call was first reported by TMZ, which says Fonda got out of his car and found the man slumped over in the front seat.

Fonda is best known for his role in the 1969 film "Easy Rider" as sex-and-drugs loving biker Captain America. That earned him the first of two Academy Award nominations. The other was for "Ulee's Gold" in 1997. Other film credits include "Race With the Devil," "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry," and "3:10 to Yuma."

The 70-year-old actor is the son of film legend Henry Fonda, the brother of Oscar winner Jane Fonda and the father of actress Bridget Fonda.
