The 34-year-old new mother - who welcomed her first child with R&B crooner husband Robin Thicke in April - has landed the lead female role in the fourth "M: I" film and will act alongside Tom Cruise in the action franchise.

According to Deadline.com, the film will not be called "Mission: Impossible 4." Both director JJ Abrams and Cruise, 48, are approaching the motion picture as a reboot of the franchise. The movie also stars "Hurt Locker" actor Jeremy Renner, 39.

Patton is expected to star as an agent who works with Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, and she reportedly beat out actress (Lauren German) and Kristen Kreuk ("Smallville") for the role.
