Paul Newman Thanks Ireland
Paul Newman gave thanks to Ireland's prime minister after the two visited a center for sick children set up by the actor's charity foundation.
Newman, 74, said he was grateful that Prime Minister Bertie Ahern provided the Barretstown Castle estate as a location for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which has played host to nearly 4,000 children from 20 European countries.
"Children from Ireland and all over Europe come to this beautiful place to live and play with others who understand what it means to battle against illness and be like children again," Newman said Wednesday. "They leave the Barretstown Gang Camp with a fresh outlook on life and a renewed strength of spirit."
Newman started the Hole in the Wall foundation in 1988 and has several camps in the United States.
