paidContent - Tauntr Raising $1.5 Million For Trash-Talking Sports Property
This story was written by Tameka Kee.
Tauntr, an online and mobile property aimed at letting sports fans “talk trash” to each other, has raised $1.1 million worth of a $1.5 million first round of funding, per an SEC filing. The startup did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
Tauntr was first developed by Boston-based marketing agency Fort Franklin. Agency founder Marc Gallucci is listed as one of Tauntr’s board members; the startup’s president is Lane Murphy (formerly a VP at Goldman Sachs). Tauntr will produce a variety of sports-related video content, including a daily news round up (a la SportsCenter), as well as casual games, mobile and social media apps. Its closest competitor is trash-talking video social network SmackCaster.
