Packwood To Marry

Former Sen. Bob Packwood will marry his former top aide.

She stayed with Packwood during the sex scandal that led to his leaving the U. S. Senate.

Elaine Franklin says she'll marry the Oregon Republican sometime before Christmas.

Franklin was chief of staff when Packwood resigned in 1993 over allegation he made unwanted sexual advances on female employees and colleagues.

Franklin first met Packwood in 1979 and has stayed close to him since he left office.

The two live on opposite coasts, with Packwood running a successful consulting business in Washington, and Franklin working out of Portland.
