Overhaul for Instagram but still no Android app
If you're an iPhone user, the debut of Instagram 2.0, an overhaul of the user interface in the popular photo-sharing app, will be good news indeed. The thrust of the enhancements in this upgraded version will be to help you post photographs on the service faster than before.
Along with a redesigned user interface, the app now includes four new filters as well as "a complete upgrade to Instagram's camera with a brand new technology layer." We'll excuse the market-speak as Instagram has distinguished itself as a user fave' since it arrived on the scene a year ago. In August, Instagram passed a milestone when the 150 millionth photo got posted on the service. Not bad for a six-person outfit.
By rewriting the filters, Instagram has removed the wait time that previously attended the time needed to apply a filter a photo. The company says that the filters now work more than 200 times faster than before. Instagram has also partnered with a popular Instagram user @colerise to create four new filters including Amaro, Rise, Hudson, and Valencia.
All fine and good. But what about the rest of us? According to the latest stats supplied by Nielsen, Android's share of the smartphone market came in at 40 percent, trailed by Apple's iOS at 28 percent. To be fair, none of that has escaped Instagram's attention. Earlier this month, CEO Kevin Systrom told the Guardian that an Android version of the pass "is a major priority for us, but first we have to build the team, and find the best people in the world to work on these projects."
In the meantime, though, you'll have to wait. Anyway, here's the iTunes link to the update.
