Out Of Remote Control

CBS News Saturday Morning is always on the lookout for innovative new products. Here are the latest in a new wave of high-tech remote controls. One of these gadgets might be just right for your Dad on Father's Day.

Corvette Remote

• Telemania's Corvette Universal Remote ($39.95)

This is a scale replica of a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette. The buttons include a variety of vehicle sound effects, including realistic revving and honking. It has the ability to control up to five different devices: TV, VCR, cable, DVD and satellite.

Star Wars Remote

• Telemania's Star Wars Universal Light Saber Remote ($44.95)

Shaped like the classic Jedi weapon, this Star Wars remote control is replete with sound effects and glowing lights. It controls up to three devices: TV, VCR and cable. Very small buttons may be problematic for some users.

• Telemania's "Golf Universal Remote" ($39.95)

With a creative golf course design, this remote comes complete with green, sandtraps, water hazards, and golfer quips. The power switch is a miniature golf ball, and it controls up to four devices: TV, VCR, cable and satellite.

This remote looks just like a fishing reel, with an easy grip and a lifelike reeling handle. Fun special effects include the sound of casting a line, and a fisherman saying, "reel it in!" It controls up to five devices: TV, VCR, DVD, cable and satellite.

The Hy-Tek Remote

• Tek Partners' Hy-Tek Remote ($39.95)

Big, illuminated buttons make this remote control easy to use and read. It also contains a "couch mode," which turns the remote off if a button is pressed for more than three consecutive minutes. It controls up to four devices: TV, VCR, cable and satellite.

The Home Producer '8'

• One For All's Home Producer '8' Remote ($99.95)

A top-of-the-line remote, the Home Producer has radio frequency, allowing users to control home theater from anywhere in the house. It even works through walls. It contains a blue backlight and a digital screen for time and day. It controls up to eight devices: TV, VCR, DVD, CD, cable, tuner, amplifier and satellite.

• Jensen's SC-590 Remote ($39.95)

Quite the ergonomic remote, the SC-590 has a contoured case and index finger grooves for comfort. There's a fully backlighted keypad, and the sleek design gives it an appealing look. It controls up to ten devices: TV, VCR, DVD, CD, WebTV, audio receiver, cable, tuner, amplifier and satellite.
