OSU Coach Pleads Guilty
Ohio State assistant football coach Mike Jacobs pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of disorderly conduct to resolve accusations that he struck his ex-wife during a fight.
Judge Steven Hayes of Franklin County Municipal Court placed Jacobs on probation for 18 months.
He also ordered Jacobs to spend 30 days in jail, but 28 days were suspended. Jacobs had been given credit for spending two days in jail after the charges were filed Jan. 16.
As a condition of his probation, he must receive domestic violence counseling.
Jacobs had been charged with assault and domestic violence, but Hayes dismissed the assault charge and the domestic violence charge was changed to disorderly conduct.
Robbin Jacobs accused her ex-husband of hitting her and pulling her hair while the two were driving on a freeway. Jacobs had denied doing anything wrong.
The couple have four children. They were married June 18, 1987, and divorced July 23, 1997.
Jacobs, a fourth year assistant under coach John Cooper, placed Jacobs on paid administrative leave after the charges were filed, but later reinstated him.
Jacobs was an assistant for 15 years at West Virginia before coming to Ohio State.
The judge is the son of the late Ohio State coach Woody Hayes.
