We asked celebrity stylist Felix Mercado of Say It With Style and Shutupandwearit.com if co-host Anne Hathaway lived up to her glamorous reputation.

"Anne Hathaway personifies the next generation of Hollywood icons. She's funny, quirky, beautiful and a real talent," Mercado said, calling her "this generation's Julia Roberts."

Clearly a trendsetter, Hathaway sported one of the biggest trends on the carpet - red gowns - as shje rockied in a signature red Valentino gown before getting into presenter mode on stage. Lest you be tempted to follow this trend, Mercado has some warnings: "Tomato red is one of the most difficult colors to wear."

"But I'd suggest anyone interested in adding some spice to their wardrobe should do this in drips and not all over color, " he said, "Again, less is more. So a red top, shoes, purse and maybe belt are all you need to add this trend to your everyday wardrobe."

Embellished dresses also trended on the red carpet, with stars like Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz and Mandy Moore glittering. Mercado says they got the look right, keeping jewelry minimal so embellishments "are appreciated."

As Academy Award-winner Gwyneth Paltrow pointed out, "it's not a night for anything too avant garde."

So who werre Mercado's Best and worst?

Worst:

Marisa Tomei Mercado says Marisa Tomei missed the mark in her vintage 1950's Charles James gown. "The dress made no sense, the straps were too wide, neckline too high and the tulling was entirely too big. Not flattering at all!"

Jennifer Hudson He also was no fan of Jennifer Hudson in a tomato red dress with plunging neckline by Versace, purple shoes and mullet hairstyle. "Did nothing for her complexion and her hair was a little too coiffed!"

Nicole Kidman "Nicole Kidman in Dior, way too much going on. I'm so over her in white," Mercado said.

Best:

Michelle Williams "Michelle Williams was stunning in a platinum form-fitting gown by Chanel. The best she's looked in a long while. Very girlie and simple. A blonde Audrey Hepburn to me."

Anne Hathaway Anne Hathaway rocked the red carpet in classic red Valentino. Her look is exactly what the Oscars are about. Hollywould glamour at its best!"

Halle Berry "Halle Berry in nude Marchesa looked gorgeous! Very few people can pull off a dress that color, but Halle did just that. I love how she kept the accessories simple so your eye was able to focus on her beauty and the dress. Well done!"
