Oprah Winfrey picks "Little Wonder" by Sophie Chen Keller for book club: Read a free excerpt
Oprah Winfrey exclusively announced "Little Wonder" by Sophie Chen Keller as her latest book club pick Tuesday on "CBS Mornings."
The novel is about a mother named Song and her son, River, who are separated in a busy train station in Beijing.
"It's every mother's worst nightmare," Keller said.
The book then follows their lives as they spend years searching for each other.
"When I started reading it, I had to actually Google the Beijing train station, because I'm like, 'How do you just lose a child in the Beijing train station?' And it is pretty big and all-consuming and there's lots of people, millions of people every day," Winfrey told "CBS Mornings." "So the journey of this mother and son and their bond and love for each other and how love never — it never rescinds. It never dies no matter what."
Keller was home with her two children, who were sick, when she received the call from Winfrey that her book was selected.
"I had my daughter strapped into the baby carrier and I was bouncing her on the yoga ball and I had my son curled up on the rocking chair beside me," she recalled. "Despite the circumstances, it was just so special to share that moment with my two kids because they are the heart of this book. So I'll never forget that call and that day."
