Operation Mountain Shadow: 65 arrested and $2.1M in narcotics seized in Calif. drug bust, report says

Drugs seized in Southern California's undercover drug investigation CBS affiliate KFMB

(CBS) POWAY , Calif. - Sixty-five people were arrested in California Tuesday after an undercover drug probe dubbed "Operation Mountain Shadow" resulted in the seizure of $2.1 million in drugs and numerous weapons, according to CBS affiliate KFMB.

The confiscated drugs reportedly weighed more than 170 pounds, including 93 pounds of methamphetamine, 58 pounds of cocaine, 14 pounds of heroin, five pounds of prescription pills, 30 grams of marijuana and $230,000 in cash.

Seventy-six guns and a live hand grenade were reportedly seized as well.

The station reports police said the yearlong operation focused on the Poway and Ramona areas in Southern California after authorities received complaints about crimes.

Numerous local and federal law enforcement agencies served dozens of search warrants Tuesday morning.

Those arrested are facing charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and could face additional charges. If convicted, each suspect could face sentences ranging from probation to 25 years in prison, according to the station.
