Ontario man charged in domestic assault over TV remote

(CBS) - A 77-year-old Ontario man is facing domestic assault charges after allegedly choking his wife during a dispute over a TV remote control.

Police in Chatham told The Windsor Star that the incident Monday night started when the man wanted to watch wrestling and his wife wanted to watch a soap opera.

Police say a struggle for the clicker ensued and then turned violent when the elderly man started to choke his wife. She eventually fled and dialed the police.

The man, whom police have not been named, is charged with five counts of assault and one count of uttering threats, reports the newspaper.

He remains in custody until a bail hearing.

Chatham is 190 miles southwest of Toronto.
