(CBS/AP) PHILADELPHIA - One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a total of six people were shot in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia Sunday evening, according to CBS Philly.

Philadelphia police say witnesses aren't helping much as officers investigate.

The station reports a man walked up to a corner and opened fire towards a group of men while a car, believed to be with the shooter, pulled up on the opposite side of the victims and also began shooting.

A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene and five other men, ages 18 to 23 were wounded - one critically. None of the victims have been identified

Police don't know if any of the wounded might also be suspects, so the five victims remained under police guard at a hospital Monday.

The station reports despite a large crowd being present when the shooting happened, no one has claimed to have seen or heard anything.

Police commissioner Charles Ramsey reportedly said Monday the shooting could have been in retaliation for a September murder in the area.

Police say they've recovered about 50 shell casings and 17 bullet fragments from the scene. They say the evidence is from more than one gun, but they're not sure exactly how many weapons were used.

An investigation is ongoing.
