National Bicycle Giveaway Program

All summer long hundreds of new bicycles are being given away in cities throughout the country.

The campaign, called Biketown USA, is trying to get more people to pedal through their daily lives, for health, transportation, and fun.

Steve Madden, the editor-in-chief of Bicycling magazine, which began the program three years ago, stopped by The Early Show plaza and gave some 50 onlookers free bikes!

He told Harry Smith and Dave Price, "We've given away almost 2,000 bicycles now (since the program's inception), and the whole idea is to get people out, get them riding, so they can see how bikes can change their lives. And, we've just had hundreds of these stories about people losing weight, reconnecting with their families and feeling better. And, almost everyone who does it reports how much happier they are since they started riding."
