Ohio mom and daughter, 5, shot in car

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A five-year-old girl is dead after she and her mother were shot in the head in their vehicle in Cleveland Sunday night, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.

The shooting happened on the city's west side at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, when a man in a green SUV pulled alongside the victims' car, got out and fired on the vehicle before fleeing, according to police.

According to WOIO, a statement from the family identified the victims as Noni Brooks, 33, and her daughter Jermani Brooks.

Preliminary investigation by police revealed that the mother's boyfriend and an infant were also in the car with Noni and Jermani when the shooting occurred, reports WOIO.

"The baby don't deserve nothing like this," said a family member of the victims. "I figure there should be justice brought up on him [the shooter]. He should be put up under the dirt for what he did."

Police reportedly have a possible location on the suspected gunman after the vehicle was traced to one address, where investigators were led to another address in a residential area of Cleveland. SWAT team negotiators are on the scene.

The mother, 33, is at MetroHealth Medical Center being treated, where WOIO reports that she was recently upgraded to fair condition.

No arrests have been made.
