Ohio gunman kills toddler, girlfriend and wounds 3 others at apartment complex, police say

(CBS/AP) TOLEDO, Ohio - Police say an Ohio man killed a 3-year-old child and a 26-year-old woman before being shot and killed by police at an apartment complex in northwest Ohio on Tuesday night.

The woman is believed to be the estranged girlfriend of the gunman, who allegedly shot and injured three other people before opening fire on police.

Mark Hummer, the police chief in Lake Township, said officers responded to a reported domestic situation at the apartment complex at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. No named have been released. The suspect allegedly shot five people in two apartments before coming outside and firing on officers. Two officers returned fire and killed him.

The three other people shot in the apartments were hospitalized. Hummer said that two are in serious condition, and one is in guarded condition.
