Ohio Boy Charged with Killing Mother May Have Argued with Her Beforehand
MILLERSBURG, Ohio (CBS/AP) Two loaded guns were found on the bed of a 10-year-old boy charged as a juvenile with the Ohio shooting death of his mother, Deborah McVay, according to police.
Chief Deputy Nathan Fritz of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office says one weapon was a .22-caliber rifle investigators believe was used to fire the fatal shot.
Fritz says the boy may have argued with his mother beforehand about whether to carry firewood into the home.
Fritz tells The Daily Record of Wooster the other was a 12-gauge shotgun. Investigators think the guns were given to the child by his now-deceased grandfather.
The newspaper identified the 10-year-old suspect as Joseph McVay.
The mother was found dead Sunday night of a single gunshot wound to the head at the home in Big Prairie, about midway between Cleveland and Columbus.
Her son's attorney on Monday entered the juvenile equivalent of a not guilty plea.
