· Democrat Mary Boyle has been campaigning for the U.S. Senate for the better part of a year - since she declined requests to run for Ohio Secretary of State.

· In 1994, Boyle lost the Democratic Senate nomination to Hyatt Legal Services Founder, Joel Hyatt (46% to 44%). She was the first woman in Ohio history to seek the Democratic nomination for the Senate. Hyatt won in the primary; but in the general election, he was defeated by then Rep. Mike DeWine.

· During the Â'94 Senate race, the mother of four children campaigned on the slogan, "The United States Senate does not need any millionaires, and it does not need any more lawyers. What the United States Senate does need is a few more mothers."

· Following his vacation in Hawaii in August, Vice President Gore campaigned for Boyle during a stop in Ohio.
