Obama to Speak at Tucson Memorial

TUCSON, Ariz. - President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will travel to Tucson on Jan. 12 to commemorate the six lives that were lost on Jan. 8 in the tragic shooting outside a Safeway store as Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. held an event for constituents.

The president will speak at "Together We Thrive: Tucson and America," held at 6 p.m. at McKale Center at the University of Arizona to remember the lives of Judge John Roll, 63, Dorothy Morris, 76, Dorwin Stoddard, 76, Christina Greene,9, Phyllis Schneck, 79, and Gabriel Zimmerman, 30.

The event will include a Native American blessing, a moment of silence, a poetry reading and a presentation of messages from the public. University of Arizona president Robert N. Shelton, state and federal officials and members of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona will also speak.

In addition, there will be a mass at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 at St. Odillia.

On Jan. 12, a rosary will be held for Green from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Odillia, with her funeral to take place on Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

A rosary will be held for Judge Roll from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Thomas on Jan. 13. His funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Jan. 14 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, with a private burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
