Obama to meet with Libyan opposition leader
President Obama will meet on Tuesday morning with one of the leaders of Libya's opposition group, which took control of Tripoli in July, the White House said today.
While in New York for United Nations General Assembly meetings, Mr. Obama will meet with Mahmoud Jibril, a chairman of the Transitional National Council, to discuss the post-Qaddafi era in Libya.
Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi is still on the run and his supporters are still fighting off the opposition in some parts of Libya, but the U.S. officially recognized the Transitional National Council (TNC) as Libya's government in July.
A White House official tells CBS News the U.S. would like the U.N. to recognize the TNC as the government of Libya.
