Obama Talks Economy in Texas

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic

AUSTIN -- Barack Obama continues his "big push" through Texas today, where his message will be focus on the economy and jobs. As fears grow that the economy is teetering on the brink of a recession, Obama is making a concerted effort to prove to voters that he can deliver on his promises to fix the economy.

The campaign believes that the economy is one issue that demonstrates a major policy difference not just with Hillary Clinton, but with John McCain. Obama has been increasingly critical of McCain on the campaign trail and said he has "tethered" himself to President Bush's economic policy.

"He's tied to the failed policies of George Bush and he's not going to bring about change," Obama said at a rally yesterday.

"He is still invested in the George Bush tax cuts for the wealthy as the solution for every economic problem."

As Obama makes his way through Texas today, his crowds are expected to smaller than at recent events. Just last night at a rally in San Marcos, over 12,000 people attended the late night event. However, today's stops are built to be town hall meetings, where Obama can take questions from voters.
