Obama Speech Focuses on Economy - And Clinton

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Although Barack Obama's speech at Furman University focused on the economy, he also took the opportunity to name and criticize Hillary Clinton.
On Clinton's economic plan, he said that she didn't think workers and seniors needed a tax cut until the economy took a down turn. "Five days later, the economy didn't really change, but the politics apparently did, because she changed her plan to look just like mine."
He continued to go after her for voting for the bankruptcy bill and then saying that she was glad the bill did not pass. "I know you can get away with this in Washington, but most of us know that if you don't want to see a bill pass, there's a pretty easy option available – you can vote against it."
Obama also criticized her position on NAFTA and said that she wrongly disputes his position on the Iraq war. Obama accused Clinton of changing her positions for political advantage.
"We can't afford a President whose positions change with the politics of the moment," Obama said, "We need a President who knows that being ready on day one means getting it right from day one."
Obama and his campaign have grown increasingly frustrated with the Clinton campaign. His demeanor at the debate last night and his campaign's frequent conference calls with reporters to refute the Clinton campaign's claims are evidence of this. This morning, the campaign announced a South Carolina "truth squad," which is intended to "aggressively pursue" attacks on Obama.
