Obama: "Don't Tell Michelle" About Southern Lunch

(AP)
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Just days after a physical revealed his elevated cholesterol level, President Obama is facing the temptation of down-home Southern food.

At Savannah's landmark Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, the president told reporters: "I don't want any lectures about my cholesterol. Don't tell Michelle."

The standard menu includes an artery-clogging array: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, cream corn, biscuits, corn bread, macaroni salad, turnips, green beans, BBQ pulled pork, blueberry pudding and banana pudding.

Reporters were ushered out before Mr. Obama ordered. As he asked for a "sweet tea," he told his tablemates that would sample everything on the menu.

The president's recent medical exam revealed that his total cholesterol, and LDL or "bad" cholesterol had hit the borderline high range since his last check-up three years ago.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs blamed the temptation of cheese burgers and desserts at stops like today's visit to Savannah.
