NYC Targets Gun Makers

The city of New York will go to court Tuesday to sue approximately 30 gun makers.

Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says the manufacturers negligently market and distribute guns.

The federal lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Among the defendants are Smith and Wesson, the nation's largest gunmaker.

The city of New York claims the gunmakers use deceptive advertising to sell guns, including saying homes with guns are safer.

New York's move follows similar lawsuits against the gun industry by cities including New Orleans, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Last year, a federal jury found several major handgun makers liable for shootings because of irresponsible marketing.
