No. 99 May Add To Trophy Case

Wayne Gretzky, who retired from hockey two weeks ago, has another chance to add some hardware to his crowded trophy case.

Gretzky, hockey's all-time scoring leader, was one of three finalists announced Wednesday for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which recognizes sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct in the NHL.

Also nominated were Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Anaheim winger Teemu Selanne with the winner to be announced June 24. Gretzky has already won the award four times.

Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr, Buffalo's Dominik Hasek and Ottawa's Alexei Yashin were nominated for the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the league's MVP.

Hasek, Byron Dafoe of the Boston Bruins and Curtis Joseph of the Toronto Maple Leafs are the candidates for the Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender.

Hasek has won the last two Hart Trophies and four of the last five Vezinas.

The Norris Trophy for outstanding all-around defenseman is between Lidstrom, Boston's Ray Bourque and Al MacInnis of the St. Louis Blues.

The Calder Memorial Trophy candidates for outstanding rookie are Chris Drury and Milan Hejduk of the Colorado Avalanche and Marian Hossa of the Ottawa Senators.

The finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy, for outstanding defensive forward, are Magnus Arvedson of Ottawa, Jere Lehtinen of Dallas and Mike Peca of Buffalo Sabres.

Nominated for the Jack Adams Award for outstanding coach are Ken Hitchcock of the Dallas Stars, Jacques Martin of the Ottawa Senators and Pat Quinn of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
