(CBS/AP) MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Northern New Jersey man Anthony Novellino, who is accused of fatally stabbing his ex-wife 84 times and covering her face with a Halloween pig mask, has pleaded not guilty.

The Daily Record of Parsippany reports that Novellino, 44, entered his plea to murder and weapons charges Wednesday in state Superior Court in Morristown.

He could face life in prison without parole if convicted.

Prosecutors say Novellino attacked his wife, Judith, a high school English teacher, at their Denville home in June. They had recently finalized their divorce, and Judith Novellino was packing items to take to her apartment when she was stabbed.

Their adult daughter found her body the next day.

Novellino was taken into custody days later 3,000 miles away in Washington State.
