Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are "officially dating"

(CBS) - "American Idol" season 10 castoff Paul McDonald has confirmed that he and "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed are an item.

McDonald, who was voted off by viewers last week, confirmed the news to US Magazine.

While the two are "officially dating," McDonald, 26, told the magazine that they "don't get to see each other too much because [they're] both working so hard."

"[Nikki's] supercool," he said. "She's been real supportive of this whole thing. She's actually pumped up now because she likes my original material way better than all the stuff I do on the show."

The pair first met when the top 13 "Idol" finalists went to the Los Angeles premiere of "Red Riding Hood" in early March.

"It was weird," he said, referring to how they instantly hit it off. "I haven't ever actually watched any of her movies. I don't know too much of her career at all, but the person she is is super cool."

He added, "I told her I'm not watching any of [her movies] for a long time... She said, 'I don't want you watching' and I was like 'I don't want to!'"
