New "Dora" Explores The Possibilites

One of the most popular cartoon characters in the world has a new voice as 12-year-old Caitlin Sanchez is now "Dora the Explorer."

Sanchez doesn't sound like Dora in real life however, but she can go into character at the drop of a dime.

She stopped by the Early Show to chat with co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez about landing the role of the wildy popular cartoon character, "Dora the Explorer."

Only a young girl, Sanchez has already used her skill of being bilingual to her advantage. A Cuban-American, her parents raised her speaking both English and Spanish.

"You're putting to it great use," Rodriguez said.

It's really fun for Sanchez to become the character, but she also sees the big picture when it comes to the learning experience and impact that it has on little children.

"I'm really excited. Dora is a great character. She's confident and determined and I feel honored playing her," Sanchez said.

Playing Dora is rewarding as well because she is a role model.

"Definitely. Lots of kids look up to her. Again, she's a great character, and I really love playing her," she added.

Sanchez, who lives in Manhattan, auditioned for the part by imitating the original voice as best she could and then waited in suspense to know if she was hired.

"I had to wait about a week until my agent called me and told me that I got the job," she said.

Although playing Dora is an amazing opportunity for Sanchez, she has a lot more exploring to do regarding her goals in life.

"I am also a musician. I come from a very musical family. I started playing piano when I was about 5. I also like to sing. I want to go to Juilliard or Berklee College of Music someday," Sanchez said.

"Good for you. I have no doubt you will accomplish whatever you want," Rodriguez said.
