New charge for man suspected in three North Carolina murders
BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. --A North Carolina man charged in three murders now faces another charge, following an alleged armed robbery attempt in October, according to CBS affiliate WSPA.
Pierre Lamont Griffin was already charged with the murders of Alexandra King, Tatianna Diz, Uhon Johnson.
Griffin is reportedly accused of having killed King and Diz and dumping their bodies in the French Broad River. Investigators told reporters that King and Diz left their apartment around 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 27 and traveled in King's vehicle to pick up Griffin.
The three then went to a secluded area in the River Arts District where Griffin allegedly shot and killed the two women, according to CBS affiliate WSPA.
That same night, police say Griffin killed Johnson in his Buncombe County apartment, stole his car, and led law enforcement officers on a chase.
Prosecutors say that the police chase that began in Buncombe County ended with an attempted armed robbery and Henderson County deputies shooting Griffin in Polk County.
As per state law, when a crime occurs in multiple counties, each county has concurrent venue -- and jurisdiction -- of the charges, according to the station. Since the most serious charges occurred in Buncombe County, prosecutors agreed to let Griffin be tried there.
"I want to thank DA Newman for deferring to us here in Buncombe County so that we may seek justice for the victims and their families locally without putting them through two separate trials in two separate counties," Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams said, according to CBS affiliate WSPA.
A Buncombe County grand jury had reportedly indicted Griffin on multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder.
