Naked Gardening

Inspired by necessity, 16 gardening club members volunteered to drop everything and pose for a revealing 2003 Beefcake Calendar. However, don't expect to see a lot of chiseled bodies!

The subjects of this fund-raising pictorial range from 32 to 90 years of age. And, don't anticipate to see the "Full Monty," because the photos place the models in stances that leave a little to the imagination.

The First Men's Garden Club of Dallas is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1941, incorporated in 1971 and affiliated with The Men's Garden Clubs of America/ Gardeners of America since 1950.

John Hunt, Mr. December 2002 and the president of The First Men's Garden Club of Dallas, and few of the club members featured on the Beefcake Calendar visited The Saturday Early Show.

Hunt says his club has tried to raise money in the past by organizing garage sales, yard sales and garden shows. The idea to create a nude calendar was inspired by groups in England.

He explains, half-jokingly, that sex sells and nobody would buy the calendar if the gardeners were wearing clothes.

Of course, there were a few members apprehensive about peeling down to their birthday suits. But, Hunt says, most of the members were willing to pose for the calendar. Last year, 12 posed nude. The 2003 edition of the calendar has 16 posing for charity.

Funds raised by the calendar go toward programs including: the annual Richland College scholarships, community and school gardening projects, tree plantings, therapeutic horticulture and educational programs.

The calendar sells for $15 plus tax and $1.50 postage and can be ordered online.
